I’m biased because I was a guinea pig to dozens of modalities before finding EFT Tapping, but when I was first sent a mildly embarrassing video of a woman tapping her face “to reduce anxiety” I knew I would do anything to master it like my future depended on it.
Brief backstory:
At 5 years old I saw my brother die in a sudden accident: I started going to trauma therapy with a cool EMDR specialist Sally.
She told my parents I had clinical OCD and Anxiety: My mom opted out of medication since she saw a direct cause-effect between my symptoms and what I had witnessed.
My good ol’ momma Lynn got trained as an energy healer and Reiki master as an alternative way to support our “issues.”
She took me with her to her early trainings, so I became a Certified Reiki Practitioner at 12 years old.
I started reading my way to healing from a library worth of books gifted to me by a long line of health-curious women.
It took persistent self-exploration and trauma healing to see my OCD subside by 8th grade.
My anxiety would come and go, making me lose faith that “full healing” was Possible.
One especially intense resurgence of anxiety and panic attacks in college led me to find EFT Tapping. It appealed to me because it supported me in coming face to face with and finally releasing the trauma that started my symptoms in the first place. And, I could do it on myself without feeling beholden to ann expert outside of myself (which is why I love empowering my clients to be their own expert)!
It only took a few EFT sessions to dissolve the last tendrils of my OCD brain and to finally transform my anxiety for good.
From my frantic search for a breakthrough, I learned we don’t need a million alternative protocols (cut to an exhausting and extensive list of practitioners). We need one efficient tool.
My go-to healing tool needed to be psychosomatic.
Psychosomatic Healing: Targets the physical, mental, emotional, relational, and/or spiritual blocks that form as a result of trauma.
The most efficient tool should:
Not only ease your issues but process the trauma at the root.
Rewrite fear-based beliefs
Release coping strategies you developed to deal with those beliefs
Coping Strategies: Any behavior that no longer works for you but that used to work for you as a scared kid i.g people pleasing, perfectionism, avoidance, etc
Release unprocessed grief, anger, and fear that is showing up as emotional explosions
Address the physical symptoms that crop up from years of stuffing down emotions
Release the fear-based inner narratives that keep you from taking risks and reaching goals
Change the way you relate to people that remind you of your past. Goodbye, unhealthy relationship dynamics and attachment styles!
Unlike when I was five, people are less likely to grab a bottle before first attempting to address root causes.
It has become common knowledge that trauma can result in a list of physical, mental, emotional, and behavioral side effects.
Speaking from experience, you shouldn’t have to puzzle piece your healing together with different (expensive and complicated) tools. That toolkit gets heavy with different remedies for physical healing, techniques for emotional relief, habits to rewire your brain, or scripts to communicate better.
In 2011, I decided to empty my toolkit and simplify.
I got trained in EFT because I knew my future physical health, mental health, emotional health, and relationship health were at stake.
Once I got trained I had a tool I could use daily, consistently, and for free to not only address every psychosomatic symptom but the root cause.
If I hadn’t learned to master this tool, my future would still be laced with anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, insecurity, procrastination, a lack of boundaries, disordered eating, trust issues, a journal full of limiting beliefs, migraines, and PTSD surrounding childhood moments that created these psychosomatic symptoms.
There are many tools to address these symptoms, but I only know of one that addresses all of them at once.
